Penobscot County Conservation Association
April 2006 Newsletter
President: Woody Higgins
Meeting Date: April 6, 2006 at 6:00 PM
A Smothered Beef Dinner will be served at 6:00 pm. This is Wardens night and we will also have the Unity College students and the University of Maine-Machias students as guests.
The 68th version of the Sportsmen's Show is now in the history book. I want to sincerely thank all the people that helped this past weekend. We had times when we could have had more help but everyone there stepped up and the show went on. Paul, Nancy, and I thank you all.
There will be no business part of the April meeting. We will go right from dinner to our guests. The May meeting will be a busy one with budget reports, committee reports and election of officers for the coming year. This will be a very serious meeting and I ask all members to attend. The date of this meeting is May 4th. There will also be a by-lay change to vote on. (See insert)
The Student Chapter of the Wildlife Society will have their annual Game Banquet on April 9th. Tickets are $8.00 and I will have some at the meeting. This is an interesting and excellent meal so get a ticket and enjoy.
Good things are happening with Greenland Point and here are a few:
Metal Roofs are being put on many cabins including ours.
Donations are coming in
Outdoor Schools are booking for the spring and retreats for later in the summer
We have a full time nurse signed for the summer
We will have a work day there on April 1st, anyone interested in helping contact Al Faust, Zeke Leighton, or Woody.
Dean Smith is talking about a work day at the Stetson camp to finish jacking the camp and insulating under the floor. He will also have another work day to do the paneling inside the camp. We'll announce the dates later.
The gun raffle will start April 1st. Thanks to all who sold or bought tickets. It has been a tough sell this year but thanks to some excellent sales people at the Sportsmen's show we will show a profit on this fund raiser.
Thanks again to all who put in long hours at the Show.
Woody
