August 2006 Newsletter
President: Jay Munson
Presidential Ramblings:
It doesn’t seem possible that the summer is over and we are starting another busy season here at the PCCA. I hope this first newsletter of the season finds everyone rested and well as there will be plenty to do this year. Although the majority of the membership has not been busy, there have been several activities going on throughout the summer. Bingo has continued every Tuesday and I would like to take this time to thank those of you who show up faithfully each week to give of your time.
Summer camps were also in full swing the last 2 months with Greenland Point being open for the first time in a couple of years. This was a successful year for Greenland Point with over 100 kids attending the camp this year. Maine Youth, Fish and Game at Pickerel Pond was also successful with 80 kids attending over two separate weeks.
I would like to thank those of you who gave of your time to help on the range at the Boy Scout camp over the summer. I must admit this was my first time at the camp and found it very rewarding helping the kids, some who had never shot before.
Safari Club International contacted us this summer and asked if we had a youth that could attend a summer camp they were sponsoring. This camp is a pilot program held only in two other states. The camp is an advanced conservation camp held for 12 to 16 year old youth who have already attended the hunter safety course. After not being able to find a youth from our own membership that either had the qualifications or could attend the camp on the second week of August, Dillon Fitzpatrick, a 15 year old youth from Brewer, was nominated and attended the camp.
Supper Meeting:
PLEASE NOTE: As stated at the end of last season, the dues for the 2006 – 2007 membership must be paid before the start of the supper meeting. Anyone attending the supper meeting who has not paid will be required to pay the dues before purchasing a meal ticket. As a reminder, the dues are $25.00 for the year.
The supper will be baked ham with all the fixings and the speaker will be Michael Schumer of the IF&W. He will be talking about water fowl and turkeys. The sale of the fall canoe raffle tickets will begin at this supper meeting and Charlie will release the dates of the Sunday shoots held at the club.
Club Activities:
As a reminder, the clubs annual gun show will be held on September 10th and 11th. Please see Charlie Rumsey to sign up to help. Remember this is a major fund raiser for the club.
The annual hunter’s breakfast will be held at the camp on October 7th.
We held two separate work sessions at the camp this summer. I would like to thank Woody Higgins, Al Faust, Deane Smith, Mal Coulter, Eric Higgins, Tony Richards and Paul Uttormark for all of their help leveling, cleaning and insulating the camp.
