Presidential Ramblings:
By: Jay Munson
As I write this newsletter, we are experiencing some of the coldest days of the winter. The sportsman’s show is only 7 weeks away and spring will not be to behind that. I would like to encourage each and every one of you to please plan on helping out at the show for a few hours. It seems that a very small percentage of our membership actually spend any time at the show working. If you could all give just a couple of hours that weekend to help sell food, door tickets or just sit at an exit door, it would help tremendously. Remember that since Bingo was discontinued, this is the clubs main source of income. Every organization the club supports and every scholarship that we pay is done so by money made at the sportsman’s show. I hope to see all of you there this year lending a hand in some way. Thank you.
We are in the process of revising our land management plan for the Stetson Land. In doing so, we have been in contact with a forester from Prentiss and Carlisle. After the initial meeting, we are very interested in working with them and are attempting to arrange a meeting with them on Feb 12.
The following is an excerpt from an email sent from Greenland Point reference their annual dinner. Anyone interested should talk to Woody, Al or Nancy about car pooling from the club to Princeton. Please consider donating items for the fundraiser immediately following the meal.
The roast beef/turkey dinner at the PRG for GPC benefit is scheduled for Saturday Feb 2nd @5:30 pm with a Chinese Raffle following dinner. We happily accept any donations.
The cost is $12 including homemade strawberry shortcake for dessert. Children under 12 get in for 1/2 price.
Greenland Point will hold our annual meeting at the Princeton Rod & Gun Club the same day @ 1:00 pm.
Supper Meeting: First Thursday of each month, 6:00 P.M. at the clubhouse
The meal this month will be Pork Roast with all the fixings.
John Kosik of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration will be the speaker for February. John is a member of the NOAA Fisheries Department. This Department is charged with protecting and managing our marine resources. Please plan to attend and hear what John has to say about our saltwater fisheries.
I would like to encourage all of you to please attempt to make the meeting as this is your opportunity to not only catch up on old friendships and current events with in the club, but this is also your opportunity to express your cares and concerns reference the club and the direction it is headed in.
Club Activities:
The Sportsman’s Show is coming right up. The dates of the 2008 show are March 14th through the 16th. Please see Woody or myself if you are able to assist in anyway with the show.
The club is raffling off 3 guns and a gun cabinet this winter as a fund raiser. We will be selling tickets at the sportsmen’s show as well as the tickets that have been sent to the members. We would like to see each member purchase the tickets sent to them as a way of supporting the club. We would also like to see each member then request additional tickets that can in turn be sold to family, friends and coworkers.
We have been asked by the Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine to join forces with them to help preserve our hunting and fishing heritage. SAM has asked us to participate in a pilot program in which they will be hosting a conference for Maine sporting clubs. This will allow a round table atmosphere for the clubs to present ideas, issues and solutions at one setting.
Your board has decided to accept SAMS offer to participate. In accepting this offer, SAM has extended a free membership to their organization for all present PCCA members and any future members who might join our club during this partnership. If for some reason you chose not to receive this free benefit from SAM you may opt out. To opt out of the SAM memberships please see me or Nancy Hatch. More information about this program will follow.
Work Days:
Every 2nd and 4th Tuesday at the clubhouse at 6:00 P.M.
