PRESIDENTIAL RAMBLINGS
We are fast approaching the end of May and summer is just around the corner. I hope everyone has had the opportunity to get their turkey this year or at least had the opportunity to get out and enjoy a quiet morning in the woods watching the sun rise.
As you can see the Newsletter has changed its appearance just a little. Woody asked me if I would write the newsletter for him this month as he was going to be out of town. I figured with a whole year of newsletters ahead of me what was one more. I am trying this format this month and will try to have a better handle on it for the September’s newsletter. If anyone has any suggestions for the newsletter or would like to see a specific area of interest added to the newsletter please feel free to let me know.
Woody asked that two items be mentioned for him in this news letter. The first being that rakes, shovels and chainsaws are needed for the Greenland Point workday. The second item is his thanks to everyone who helped him these past two years.
“As part of this newsletter I want to thank all of you members who, over the past two years, have given of your time to work on projects for the club. I am very thankful for your participation in helping make my job as president that much easier. There are too many people to set down names but you all know who you are. Thank you one and all! Woody”
If you attended the May supper meeting, you are already aware of the fact that we made some changes to the club by-laws. All suggested by-law changes were passed unanimously without further discussion. These changes were to take effect immediately. The only change that did not take effect at the meeting was the increase in dues. All current members have until June 1st to pay their dues at the current rate of $15.00. After June 1st all dues will be at the new rate set forth in the club by-laws. If a member has not paid their dues by September 30th, they will become inactive and will need to reinstate their membership.
It was decided by the board during the April meeting that we should have a Committee to over see the occasional updating of the by-laws. To date Deane Smith and I sit on this committee. If anyone else has an interest in sitting on this committee, please see Deane or myself.
During the board meeting in May, it was decided that we should also have a fundraising committee. Bill Peters has graciously volunteered to chair this committee and would appreciate some help with this new committee.
SUPPER MEETING
June’s Supper Meeting will be held on June 1st at 6 pm. The speaker for the evening will be the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and wildlife’s local warden Alan Gillis. Warden Gillis will be speaking on conservation issues and wildlife management. The supper for the evening will be a New England boiled dinner with all the fixings. Please come join us as this will be the last supper meeting until September.
CLUB ACTIVITIES
The Club is holding a workday on June 10th and 11th at the Stetson Land. Saturday will be spent jacking up the middle of the camp and the Sunday will be spent insulating and finishing the ceiling.
The club is also holding a workday on June 24th at the clubhouse. The day will be spent painting the barn.
If you are planning on helping at either of these workdays you should let the appropriate coordinator know ahead of time just in case of a rain date.
Deane Smith will be coordinating the Stetson camp day and Woody Higgins will be coordinating the clubhouse day.
The gun show is approaching fast. The dates for the show are September 8th through the 10th. This is another major fundraiser for the club. Anyone planning on helping at this event should see Charlie Rumsey as soon as possible.
Anyone having an e-mail address is strongly encouraged to receive their newsletter this way. Please supply us with your e-mail address.
In future issues this space will be used as a message board for members.
Al Faust informed me that Greenland Point will be operational this summer for any youngster wishing to attend conservation camp there. The management is in place and the repairs have been made to the facility. Anyone interest in sending a child should speak to Al or Woody
