Presidential Ramblings:
By: Jay Munson

Though it still does not feel like it, we have officially entered spring. I think someone forgot to tell Mother Nature though and we are a ways off from seeing green grass and budding flowers.

We have just concluded the 70th Eastern Maine Sportsman’s Show and though we don’t have any hard and fast numbers yet I think it is safe to say that this year was a success. From all indications, the attendance was on par from years past and the booth space was sold out. The only down side to the whole show was the flu like epidemic that went through there Friday night. This caused a large number of our workers and some of our vendors to be more than just a little under the weather on Sunday.

I don’t generally do this, and at the risk of forgetting someone, I would like to publicly thank a few people for their many hours of work not only the 3 days of the show but also for several days, even months prior to the show. First and foremost I would like to thank Woody Higgins for doing the lion’s share of the work making this show happen. Between he and Nancy Hatch they worked countless hours behind the scenes talking with vendors, sending out contracts, filling holes in the booth spaces and communicating with the University in the days leading up to the show. I would also like to thank Nancy for the vendor meal and also the food prepared each day for the workers.

I would like to thank Jan Logan for her outstanding job at coordinating the ticket sales at the door and also the door guards. Speaking from experience, I know it is not easy filling all of those positions for 3 days. I would like to thank Peter Bartley and Karen Wilson for their work planning and coordinating the food booth. I don’t think anyone really understand what a large undertaking that is. I would like to also thank my wife Kelly. Kelly did all of the last minute phone calls and errands I was suppose to do but was out of town until the afternoon of the show. She then stood in the club ticket booth for the gun raffle for 3 days straight, selling a couple thousand dollars worth of raffle tickets.

I know there are several other people deserving of individual recognition and I apologize for not being able to mention everyone. Please not that the club as a whole appreciates all of you who work so hard to make this show a success. Everyone from the above mentioned people to those of you who worked a door for and an hour deserve a thank you and should be proud of the job you did making this a successful show.

Supper Meeting: First Thursday of each month, 6:00 P.M. at the clubhouse

The meal this month will be a Pot Roast with all the fixings.
The scholarship recipients from the University of Maine will be the speaker for the April meeting. Please plan to attend to hear what these young people have accomplished and also what their future plans are.

I would like to encourage all of you to please attempt to make the meeting as this is your opportunity to not only catch up on old friendships and current events with in the club, but this is also your opportunity to express your cares and concerns reference the club and the direction it is headed in.

I would like to take this time to remind everyone that it is that time of year again when dues are due. Please be sure to remit your dues to a membership committee member. Membership Committee members are Dola Hinkley and Kelly Munson. The annual dues are $25.00 for an individual and $45.00 for a family membership.

Club Activities:

The plans for the club yard sale have been modified slightly. At this time we still plan to have the sale, but have postponed the date of the event due to a scheduling conflict. We will keep you posted as more information becomes available.

I would also like to mention that Charlie is organizing another Friend’s of the NRA banquet. I know this is not a so called club event but I think that it is a worth while event that deserves mentioning. The banquet will be on April 16th, please see Charlie for more info and tickets.

I know it is early yet, but I would also like to mention the fact that we are still planning to have our second annual golf tournament this year. The date for the tournament is Aug 2nd. As these plans continue to develop I will let you know, but please mark this date on you calendar and plan to either help at the event or get a team together to play in the tournament.

Work Days:

Every 2nd and 4th Tuesday at the clubhouse at 6:00 P.M.
