PCCA Newsletter for May 2009

I hope everyone is enjoying the relief from the snow and that the fields and lawns are turning green ever so slowly. This is a great time to get out and do some early spring fishing on the local brooks and streams. Turkey season is just around the corner and it may be a good time to scout and ask permission to hunt on different land owner’s property. This spring should be a great spring turkey season based on the number of birds seen in the local fields.

On April 11th we had a cleanup day at the PCCA clubhouse and accomplished a lot of tasks. Members cut up fallen trees around the property, cleaned up around the building and got some firewood ready for next fall. If anyone sees a small project around the buildings and grounds and wants to volunteer, please do and make it happen. If several people work together you can have a lot of fun completing project.

On June 20th 2009 the PCCA will be having a Field Day and barbecue at the PCCA in Brewer. This event will be discussed more at the 7 May meeting. This will be a real fun day and will help promote outdoor activities for many of the local clubs and organizations.

The next project will be Sunday May 24th at the Stetson camp to cut wood around the field and fill the woodshed. We may also do some more work under the camp to level it up some. Please bring if you have them, chain saws, ATV’s and gloves for handling the wood. This will be an all day event so bring a lunch and enjoy the day outside.

At the May meeting we will give you an update of the Biggest Spring Turkey contest. Deane Smith signed up more than 20 hunters for the contest at the April Supper meeting. The winning turkey by (weight) will get half the pot of money for that group of hunters, adult/ youth.

There will be no speaker for the May meeting because it will be election of officers and we will be discussing the” Field Day” that we will be having on Saturday the 20th of June .
