Presidential Ramblings:
By: Jay Munson
It is now officially fall and the hunting seasons are either here or just around the corner. The moose season and in town archery is here, regular archery and then gun season for deer are only a few days away. We have been busy at the club house and at the camp with projects and cleaning out both locations. I would like to hank Dave for mowing around the camp all summer and I would also like to thank John for mowing the field at the camp.
For those of you who do not know, thanks to Paul Uttormark, we have had the history of the club published. We have this bound paperback book for sale at the club for $10.00 a copy. If you are unable to get to the club and would like to purchase a copy and have it mailed to you that can been done for an additional $5.00. Please consider purchasing a copy as there are several interesting pictures and even more interesting events documented in this book.
Supper Meeting: September 6th, 6:00 P.M. at the clubhouse
As a reminder to those who have not paid their dues yet, they were due back in May. All members who have not yet paid will be required to do so prior to purchasing their meal ticket this month. The dues for current members are $25.00. Any member who has not paid their dues by the end of October will have their names removed from the active member list and will have to pay the $35.00 new member fee to rejoin the club.
The meal this month will be Pot Roast.
The speaker this month will be one of Maine’s bear biologists Jennifer Vashon. Biologist Vashon has been a member of Maine’s biologist team for many years and was a voice of sportsmen and sportswomen of Maine two years ago when the National Humane Society threatened to virtually end Maine’s bear hunt as we know it today. Come and listen to Biologist Vashon speak about our Black Bear population.
I would like to encourage all of you to please attempt to make the meeting as this is your opportunity to not only catch up on old friendships and current events with in the club, but this is also your opportunity to express your cares and concerns reference the club and the direction it is headed in.
Club Activities:
The annual gun show was held on September 8th and 9th. I am happy to announce we had another successful show and I would like to thank Charlie Rumsey for chairing this event again this year. I would also like to thank everyone who helped work the show this year.
The club will be raffling off a hunting rifle this fall as a fund raiser. We will be selling tickets at the gun show as well as mailing tickets out to each club member. We would like to see each member purchase the tickets sent to them as a way of supporting the club. We would also like to see each member then request additional tickets that can in turn be sold to family, friends and coworkers.
The date for the fall breakfast at the camp will be on Oct 6th at starting at 8 A.M. Please plan on attending as this is a great time. Not only will you receive a wonderful breakfast and great company, there will also be skeet shooting and a chance to see the improvements made to the camp and the land.
The club will be holding its annual Hunter Safety coarse Oct 13th and 14th. If you know anyone who needs the hunter safety course please have them call the clubhouse and leave a message or e-mail me at the address on our website.
The date for the second annual hunter’s breakfast is Nov 17th. Please put this date on your calendar and I will be writing more about it as the date draws closer.
Work Days:
Every 2nd and 4th Tuesday at the clubhouse at 6:00 P.M.
